The Clerk of the Circuit Court is one of the five constitutional officers and is elected to an eight-year term by the registered voters of the County. The Clerk is the chief administrative officer of the Court who handles administrative matters for the court such as managing the court's docket and juries, processing all criminal files, and preparing, recording and maintaining court orders, subpoenas and pleadings.
The Clerk processes and files all Circuit Court suits and appeals from the lower court. The Clerk has the authority to probate wills and grant administration of estates. The Clerk also serves as record keeper for the County; recording deeds, including deeds of trust, plats and other documents relating to land. Other transactions and recordings processed by the Clerk's Office include judgments, fictitious names, financing statements, partnerships, marriage licenses, military discharges, concealed weapon permits, and a variety of appointments, including ministers and notaries. |
