The businesses in Buckingham County can be compared to a family - working together and sticking together. Buckingham County possesses a strong business environment. Buckingham County has a very strong, progressive economic development program which focuses on retaining and attracting businesses to the County. As Buckingham County grows, the program oversees development in all areas.

Buckingham County possesses a strong and active chamber of commerce. The chamber of commerce is an organization composed of businesses in the county and businesses that surround the county.  The chamber meets once a month and various speakers address the chamber at the meetings. Each year, the County of Buckingham observes the third week in May as Business Appreciation Week. On Wednesday of the week, the County hosts a business appreciation reception. Business owners, proprietors, and business representatives are all invited to this reception. The Buckingham Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, Virginia Senators and Delegates, Congressmen, and other business orientated professionals speak at this reception, discussing business in the County and thanking the businesses. During the reception, business owners and proprietors talk with each other and share ideas or concerns about business in the County.

 Longwood University, located thirty minutes away to the south, possesses a small business development center. This center provides various types of assistance to business owners and operators in Buckingham County. This non-profit organization, partnered with the U.S. Small Business Administration, offers one on one counseling with businesses. This organization also assists businesses in making decisions and successfully operating their business. All services are offered at no charge. The organization is funded by local governments and Longwood University.
