Religious Opportunities There are a number of Protestant churches throughout the Buckingham County. Please refer to your local telephone directory for names, telephone numbers, and locations. The following information was provided by the James River Baptist Association Established in 1832, the James River Baptist Association is a group of 20 Baptist churches located in the counties of Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, and Nelson. They Join together to promote a helpful and friendly fellowship among the member churches and with the community-at-large. They cooperate with the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the Southern Baptist Convention. Their goal is to reach people with the love and grace of Jesus Christ and to bring them into fellowship with other believers. The James River Baptist Associational Office is located at 990 Main Street, Dillwyn. We are open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Work of the association is coordinated through this office. Most of our churches offer Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday. Many offer mid-week prayer services as well. All are welcome to come and worship in out midst. Please phone the individual church for service times and additional program information. LOTUS is the first interfaith Shrine to include altars for all faiths known and yet unknown. It is the creation of renowned interfaith teacher and humanitarian and founder of Integral Yoga, Sri Swami Satchidananda. Opened in July 1986, LOTUS is the realization of Sri Swami Satchidananda’s universal teaching that “Truth is One, Paths are Many”, and embodies his efforts to foster religious harmony throughout the world.
Built in the shape of a lotus blossom, the ancient symbol for the spiritual unfoldment of the soul, the Shrine is a sanctuary for silent meditation, contemplation, and prayer - a place where people of all backgrounds come together under one roof to honor their individual traditions while realizing the ultimate spiritual unity of all.
Visitor Information LOTUS, LOTUS Visitors’ Center and Gift Shop are open year round, except during certain religious holidays and weather permitting. Please call prior to visiting to confirm that the Shrine is open.
