The Buckingham County Lions Club is gearing up for its 34th annual Buckingham County Day celebration. Planned for Saturday, May 10, this family-oriented festival will be held at the area adjacent Buckingham Primary School, where last year’s festival took place. The school is located west of Sprouses Corner, just off Route 60, on Route 690, High School Road. Admission and parking are free.

This year’s theme is Helping Hands, a tribute to all those who work to help make Buckingham a great community—firefighters, rescue squad, teachers, police, doctors and nurses, volunteers working with service oriented organizations, and, of course, military personnel.

Thus far, plans include the parade, which begins at 10 a.m. and follows Route 690 from Buckingham Middle School past the reviewing stand at Buckingham Primary; gospel and country music; arts and crafts; informational exhibits and displays; commercial vendors; food; lots of activities for the kids; and, the Chamber of Commerce’s ever-popular Pet Contest (all pets must be properly restrained on a leash or caged/crated).

Proceeds from this event are shared with Buckingham County Volunteer Fire Departments and Rescue Squad, and used for Lions community-service efforts, which focus primarily on sight-related projects such as providing eye exams and glasses for those who meet the need-based criteria.

For information about booth space for commercial vendors, arts and crafters, or profit and non-profit organizations, call Bill Davis at (434)983-1009. Leave a message on his machine and he will return your call.

Information and registration for parade entries are available by calling Pat Crafton at (434)969-5000, Ext. 112 or 969-2309; or craftonp@earthlink.net. And, if you or your business would like to be listed as a sponsor in the Buckingham County Day brochure and advertisements, call Tana Knott at (434)969-4832 for information on how you can become a sponsor.
