Anti-Liter Task Force

Treasurer: Carolyn Amos, Board of Supervisors RepresentativeThe Anti-litter task force was created by order of the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors on February 5, 1979. The Board of Supervisors saw a great need for a task force to eradicate the growing trash problem in the county.
Original members of the task force include Spencer Adams (who served as chairman), Helen Saxon, Jim Blevins, Edward LeSueur, Thomas Hutchenson, Thelma Ross, Garnett Shumaker, Meade Garrett, Frank Knott, Jr., Virginia Bailey, and Harry Bryant, Jr.
Since it's inception, the Buckingham County Anti-litter task force has received numerous awards at the county and state level:
- For example, in 1991 the Clean Virginia Award of Excellence;
- in 1990 the county won the Litter Prevention Award of Merit from the Virginia Department of Waste Management;
- in 1983, 1984, and 1990 the task force and the county received the Governor's Clean Virginia Award;
- an Honorable Mention from the Virginia Attorney General on behalf of the Keep Virginia Beautiful Organization;
- in 1992, the task force received a certificate of recognition from Governor L. Douglas Wilder.
